  • I live in the US, would I need a passport to travel to Hawaii?

Posted by admin on March 31st, 2010 and filed under hawaii travel | 3 Comments »

Hawaii is a state in the United States, I’m curious if I’d need a passport to travel there still.

No. I have been to Hawaii several times. You just need proper ID… Drivers License or state ID. If you don’t have either of those, you should take your passport as your ID

    here is some more Information:
Believe it or not one of the most frequently asked questions about visiting Hawaii is “Do I need a passport to visit Hawaii?” If you are a US citizen or legal resident, you don’t need a passport. Hawaii is one of the 50 states and therefore a passport is not required for US citizens and legal residents. For example, if you lawfully live in New York, you don’t need a passport to visit California or New Jersey, therefore you don’t need a passport to visit Hawaii.

If you are not a US citizen or lawful resident, you are required to present a valid passport. For example, if you are a citizen of Australia and you visit Hawaii, you are required to present a valid Australian passport. Here’s what the US Department of Homeland Security says:

All international visitors regardless of country of origin must present a passport or secure document when entering the United States by air.

A passport is only needed if you are traveling internationally. Since Hawaii is a US state, you don’t need a passport to visit. The fact that it’s half way across the world is irrelevant.
