http://www.hawaii-aloha.com – Last Friday we had the oportunity to see a screening of The Pacific, a mini series from HBO, it tells the story of three incredible men who fought in WW2. It premiers this Fri, March 14th. Originally, the series was going to be shot in Hawaii but we did not get the bid so it was shot in Australia, but Hawaii was so much a part of WW2 that it has a lot of meaning for folks here especially veterans. We were lucky enough to catch the Commander of the pacific fleet sending a message to the troops,on a meTV, a device that lets people send video messages abroad. Here is a little tribute we put together.

Could you help with planning our first Hawaii Vacation ?

When is the best time both for weather and/or less tourists to go to Hawaii for the first time?? Obviously not during hurricane season. Christmas? Thanksgiving? Would very much appreciate people who live in HA to respond.

I went in May over Memorial Day weekend and took an NCL 7-day inter-island cruise out of Honolulu, also spent 5 days in Oahu beforehand. While I’m sure a resident can give you more details, I can confirm that I had perfect weather the entire trip, and nowhere I went was mobbed with tourists. I believe April is supposed to be pretty crowded though due to many Japanese holidays, and the winter gets more crowded with surfers.

If someone is coming from the Philippines to Hawaii for vacation and not a US citizens, do they need a visa?

I am just wondering if someone who is not a US citizen and coming from the Philippines to Hawaii for vacation for like 10 days to 2 weeks of vacation, do they need a travelers visa or no??

Hawaii is a US state, so anyone who needs a visa to enter the USA needs a visa to go to Hawaii:

Whats the best places to go on vacation in Hawaii?

Planning a Havaian vacation but really don’t know what is the best island or group of islands to see.I would like to get the best overall vacation.I would like to see Pearl Harbor,some volcanos and spend some time on a nice beach.I would also like to squeeze in a helicopter ride if possible.Anyone know of any package deals? I see this as probably a one time trip because I’m on the east coast.Most of my vacations are more reasonable to Mexico or the Carribean because of travel.

My husband and I just got back from taking a cruise around the islands, it was really fun and we got to see the main 4 islands, Hawaii, Maui, Kuaui and Oahu. We went with NCL, here’s their website:

They have different itineraries and you can sign up to do shore excursions, like the helicoper rides. We didn’t do it because it was too expensive but we went on 4 other shore excursions so it was fun. I’m really glad we decided on taking a cruise instead of flying from island to island because it was really easy. Good luck planning and have fun!

What activities can we try out in Hawaii vacation with 1yr old kid..?

We are going to hawaii next week with my one year old son for his birthday.
We are going to Honolulu and pretty much planning to be in that island only. Any suggestions or pointers are appreciated.

Beach is great. Hotel swimming pool too. Honolulu has an aquarium, a zoo, and a ocean discovery center for kids. Walk around to the different hotels and see what they have that your child might like to look at – like the Hilton has penguins and ponds and does a fireworks show on Friday nights.

And, if you walk around Waikiki at night you can see street performers – like giant teddy bears and caricaturists and musicians. Lots for little ones to look at

And sea life park has a few hands on exhibits where kids can touch baby turtles sometimes, and hermit crabs – stuff like that.

Looking for cheapest rates for Vacation packages? Hawaii in particular!?

I don’t mean a few bucks off here & there – are there any wholesale discount sites that offer vacation packages or deeply discounted hotel rates or….? Our blended family is planning our summer vacation & we want to go to Hawaii but have double the guests now so we really need to save! Any recommendations welcome, thanks!

Yes, I know what kind of site you mean, especially if you’re looking for Hawaii – you want to look for a site that offers bulk rates for companies or team events. These are harder & harder to come by as rates go up for everything but the best such site I’ve found is www.corporatetravelgifts.com. They used to only offer bulk pricing for large companies but are now open to the public so anyone can buy a vacation package for super cheap.

I can personally vouch for the Hawaii pckg & Vegas pck, which I have used myself, & my brother used the all inclusive Cancun w/his girlfriend & had no complaints. Other sites like expedia, etc are ok for package deals but if you can be a little flexible & really NEED to save some serious $$, your best bet is to buy from a wholesale broker like them or someone similar.
