I mean, is there a hotel that is on the beach, so if I get a room there, say on the ground floor, I can just walk from my room right on to the beach? Are there any inexpensive ones?

Well, it would help if you defined "inexpensive". Everybody’s got a different idea of that, and most of them don’t include the rates at hotels right on the beach in Hawaii. Still, locals on Maui love the Kaanapali Beach Hotel, and have for decades.

Personally, when I stay on the Lahaina side of Maui, I like to stay at this kitschy little place that used to be an apartment complex near the Lahaina Cannery mall. It’s on the seawall, not really on the beach, but you’ll still fall asleep to the sound of ocean waves breaking on the sea wall. My sister and I actually spent one night at the Makai Inn, then one night at the Ritz-Carlton (my sister’s a medical doctor). After that, we decided we’d rather go back to the Makai Inn. I would like to warn you to turn your sound down when you explore the Makai Inn website, unless you’re a huge Don Ho fan.

How much would a round trip from Florida to Hawaii costs if we stayed in cheap hotels for two weeks?

You would have a much better chance of getting a response by going to a travel site, such as travelocity, expedia or orbitz.
You can put in your time frame and ask it to include car and/or hotels, as a package.
It will then give you a number of flights and hotels to select from to come up with a package price.

I would also suggest you then price the airfare and hotels and/or car, separately. Package deals are not always the best way to go. Often, you will save money on package deals, but its always best to check.
