(one of the longest continuous-running police series in U.S. television history) It was filmed entirely on location here in Hawaii. I love watching the show today for it’s authenticity. I like looking at the way things were in Honolulu during the 70’s.
Anyway – The Illikai Hotel was the hotel where Jack Lord was standing out on the lanai when the camera zooms in from a few miles away. The Illkai Hotel was used in many other episodes and it’s a great place to sit and watch the fireworks every Friday night. Created on March 27, 2009 using the Mino & FlipShare.

How do hotel people deal with ants in hotel rooms?

Welcome to the tropics! You are getting to know some of our lesser appreciated wildlife.[g]
I have no idea how many kinds of ants there are here, but that range in size from tiny to pretty big, and from black to reddish brown.
There are ant traps at Longs, grocery stores and the like. They work by attracting ants to the bait. They eat the bait and return the the nest to kill the colony.
The best thing you can do in a hotel room is what we do in our homes, especially kitchens. Keep things dry. Don’t leave any water spills, even from brushing your teeth or and pouring a glass of water. The ants are attracted to the water. If there is water sitting around, they will come. So get rid of the water. Keep things dry — bathroom sink area especially.
Of course you should also report your problem to housekeeping if it is severe.

My finance and I want to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon. I have been reading reviews for hotels in Waikiki. It is so difficult to decide where to stay. I don’t want to pay too much for a hotel that is not worth it, and I don’t want to pay too little and sacrifice a comfortable stay at Hawaii… for what will be our most significant vacation ever. Please help! If you have traveled to Hawaii let me know your experience with the hotel you stayed at. Thanks for your help guys! I appreciate it!

As Willy B stated in his answer, the Pacific Beach Hotel is great! My hubby and I have stayed there four out of six times. We stayed in the Oceanarium Tower the 12th floor on up.
Get a partial oceanview room with the lanai facing Diamond Head. The higher up the floor, the better the view.
They have rooms with King size bed and two double beds. My son had a room with a king size bed and his room was great! My hubby and I like the rooms with the two double beds (I sleep in one and he in the other (at home he grabs the blankets)!
The Oceanarium Buffet breakfast is very good. It is an American breakfast and sometimes on Expedia.com, you can get the buffet breakfast with your air and hotel.
The laundry is outside on the fourth floor adjacent the swimming pool and the whirlpool. They also have vending machines and some games in the room.
Have a wonderful honeymoon and congrats!!

We are going on a 7 day cruise to hawaii and staying one extra night in a hotel. we want to know how much money we should bring for spending.

NOT including anything on the ship or that’s associated with it, and keeping in mind that every island pretty much has the same souvenirs as the other isalnds, with the exception of each islands local delights, You can safely say, not much. I’m going over board here but, you can figure $50-$100 per meal. almost all restaurants have ‘Early bird specials’ beginning around 4 or 5 pm and at $8-$10 a meal, it’s a deal. If you want to go on a tour while on the islands, just google that activity for each island, or ‘Hawaii Activities’. Your ships concierge can set that up as well. Remember you need to tip for every activity you partake in. (15-20%) Are you using taxis or tour buses? This one night hotel is on which island? If you’re visitng Maui, email me and I can give you all kinds of ideas and prices and you pick what you want. I don’t require pay or a tip. I married into a big Hawaiian Family and like them, I believe when some visits our island, they should know the truth about the island and the culture and be shown places that aren’t always known to the general public. Can you tell I used to be a tour director? My daughters are 17 and 21 and speak fluent Hawaiian. I can even teach ya some words if ya like. whatever you do. please have fun, be safe, and please respect the culture and the ‘aina(land). Aloha

We are getting married in April and plan on staying at Hotel Hana in Maui. Anyone been there and is it worth it? Just looking for a place without tourists yet not segregated from activities such as scuba diving, shopping, etc.. I’m open to any suggestions and $ is not an issue.

The Hana Hotel is very nice, but if you want activities, the Hana area has some, but it is limited. Here are some top rated luxury resorts I’d recommend you to consider:
- Maui Four Seasons in Wailea
- Ritz Carlton in Kapalua (this hotel is currently closed for rennovations that are scheduled to be completed in January 2008, well in time for your honeymoon. I think it is always nice staying in a new refurbished hotel.) The Kapalua area is very upscale and relatively secluded, and it is a personal favorite.
- There are 2 Four Seasons Resorts on Lanai that are top rated and have activities.

I’ll link some articles below that list the best resorts and spas in Hawaii as rated by Travel + Leisure, Conde Nast, and Mobile. You will be able to go directly to the resorts’ web sites from the article.
