Veronica offers tips on visiting North Shore Oahu attractions such as Haleiwa Beach Park, snorkeling at Shark’s Cove and Three Tables, the sea turtles at Laniakea Beach (also called Turtle Beach), and the Waimea Falls, located inside Waimea Valley Park.

During your North Shore Oahu vacation, be sure to check out North Shore Oahu restaurants like Haleiwa Joe’s, Ted’s Bakery, Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck, the Aoki’s Shave Ice and Matsumoto Shave Ice shops and Ray’s Wood-Fired Kiave Broiled Huli Huli Chicken. For a special treat, check out the Haleiwa Farmers Market on Sundays.

When looking for North Shore Oahu accommodations, you’ll discover that there really aren’t any North Shore Oahu hotels except for Turtle Bay Resort. However, you will find several North Shore Oahu vacation rentals, condos and bed and breakfast spots.

Haleiwa surf reaches its peak in the winter months, with waves up to 30 feet. For the latest North Shore surf report, call (808) 596-SURF or visit http://www.surfnewsnetwork.com. The official North Shore Chamber of Commerce is at http://www.northshoreoahu.org/

Thanks to The Entradistas’ Andy Moore of Haleiwa, Hawaii for his cool North Shore music for this soundtrack.

We want to go on a trip to Hawaii and spend 2 night in Maui and 2 nights in Kauai. How do you travel betwen the two?
So we could actually just stay in Maui and if we want to go to Kauai just take a flight there spend the day and fly back to Maui?

From Kahului Maui, the way to get to Kauai is by air.

You have many choices: Aloha Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Island Air and GO!.

I suggest you start by visiting all their websites. Fares change frequently because of competition, so you might get lucky and find a great fare.

Aloha, Hawaiian and GO! fly jets. Their service is OK.

Island Air flies smaller turbo-prop planes that carry 37 people. Some people do not like to fly prop planes, but I fly Island Air frequently and my experience with them has been good as well.

Good luck!

I hope it’s not true that airlines don’t let this breed travel in cargo because of their noses (pugs too i’ve heard). Obviously, I don’t want to endanger my dog but I have to get her there somehow. Hawaii requires that all incoming animals arrive in cargo not the cabin. I am moving back and won’t leave my little pup behind. Any suggestions or alternatives? Mahalo!

If you are traveling with your dog to Hawaii, you’ll have to abide by all quarantine requirements to do so. This includes your dog traveling by cargo as your dog will travel directly to the quarantine facility from the cargo hold of your plane.

Check with your vet for tips of how to transport your dog if you’re concerned with their respiratory system. I’m sure your vet will know what your dog is or isn’t capable of during travel.

I would suggest you check out the website below for information on quarantine requirements. You might be able to shorten your pet’s quarantine stay if you follow the steps correctly.

Good luck and happy traveling!

I’m looking to book a vacation to Hawaii for my honeymoon next June and would like to split my time between Oahu and Maui. What is the best way to travel between Islands? Has anyone had any personal experience with these islands?

Any one of four inter island air carriers: Aloha Air, Hawaiian Air, Go Air, or Island Air. However, this just in from Pacific Business News:

The interisland airline Go! reposted its $29 one-way fares last week and announced over the weekend it was extending the offer through Monday night.
Phoenix-based Mesa Air Group Inc. (Nasdaq: MESA), operator of go!, said it was extending the offer "just for the heck of it."
The initial offer, which was matched by Hawaiian Airlines and Aloha Airlines, was for selected seats on selected flights with several blackout periods around the holidays of November and December.

"Once again we’ve received an amazing response to our fare sale," said Joe Bock, chief marketing officer for go!
Last week Mesa Air Group reported that go!’s load factor had fallen to about three quarters full in August.
Interisland air capacity is up significantly — more than 10 percent — from the same time last year, due to three factors: (1) a substantial expansion of Island Air, whose smaller aircraft now fly more routes than either Hawaiian or Aloha as they serve routes most of which are not served by the larger carriers; (2) the launch of go! with frequent service between Honolulu and the four major interisland destinations of Lihue, Kahului, Kona and Hilo; and (3) an expansion of Hawaiian and Aloha service to those same destinations in an effort to prevent go! from wresting market share from the legacy carriers.

Personal suggestion for time allotment: I recommend a 50/50 split between Maui and O’ahu. Just remember: summer is peak season; lotsa tourists, lotsa little kids, lotsa college kids, lotsa traffic… but also lotsa fun…
