I am trying to plan my first vacation and I have no idea how much money i will need to go. Anyone have any ideas?
My husband and I went to Oahu Feb. 2008. I rented our car online when I booked our flight, and also booked our sunset dinner cruise online and the day at the Polynesian Cultural Center. We took $2000 cash with us to have and we used pretty much all of it on food, souvenirs, gas for the car, etc.
Hawaii is a state in the United States, I’m curious if I’d need a passport to travel there still.
No. I have been to Hawaii several times. You just need proper ID… Drivers License or state ID. If you don’t have either of those, you should take your passport as your ID
here is some more Information:
Believe it or not one of the most frequently asked questions about visiting Hawaii is “Do I need a passport to visit Hawaii?” If you are a US citizen or legal resident, you don’t need a passport. Hawaii is one of the 50 states and therefore a passport is not required for US citizens and legal residents. For example, if you lawfully live in New York, you don’t need a passport to visit California or New Jersey, therefore you don’t need a passport to visit Hawaii.
If you are not a US citizen or lawful resident, you are required to present a valid passport. For example, if you are a citizen of Australia and you visit Hawaii, you are required to present a valid Australian passport. Here’s what the US Department of Homeland Security says:
All international visitors regardless of country of origin must present a passport or secure document when entering the United States by air.
For my hawaiian class I get extra credit if I can name some of the plant around this beach. Is anyone familiar with the area? I can’t find anything on the internet!
Nau paka is the green ground cover with half a flower. And the trees are coconut and iron wood.
Where is the best part of the Island for hiking and laying on the beach?
Are there any hotels that offer discounts to airline employees?
The Seaside Hotels are cheap, there is one in Hilo and one in Kona. Lots of locals stay there, a good sign. Kona for laying in the sun, Volcano for hiking in the crater.
I am planning a trip in hawaii sometime next month & renting a car since i like driving and seeing the whole island.
But the hotels charge parking fee for a day. It’s ridiculous. Is there any place here in this island that don’t charge for parking? And what part of oauhu is better to stay at with a great price?
stay in north shore, turtle bay is awesome! and their parking isnt bad. plus theres street parking
trying to view interview of hawaii inmate richard Castro in particular, was informed of a private seperate interview.
Best bet is KGMB’s Web site or YouTube.

I want to move to Hawaii, but I’m apprehensive about the job market due to the fact that I would be a newby without any insider’s knowledge. I can speak these three languages fluently and I would like to know what kinds of industries I may be able to get a job in. I was hoping that perhaps there would good opportunities in the hotel/tourism trade. I would appreciate anybody in the know to give me some tips about the Hawaiin job market. Thanks!
That is a skill few Americans have. I imagine you would have no problem finding a job in whatever you choose.
I am staying for 6night and would like to stay on a few different islands, a night or two on each.
I strongly suggest you rethink this plan. With security restrictions the way they are, if you island-hop every couple of days you will spend half of your vacation in airports! Six days isn’t long, really. Choose one island and see as much of it as you can in that time. These islands are beautiful and there is so much to see on each one. For example:
Maui – ‘Iao Needle, Lahaina town, Haleakala, road to Hana
Kauai – Spouting Horn, Waimea Canyon, Kilauea Lighthouse, Poipu Beach, Hanalei Valley/Bay
Oahu – Lanikai Beach, Waikiki Beach, North Shore (shave ice, big waves), Dole Pineapple Cannery, Bishop Museum
Big Island – Kilauea volcano, waterfalls (Uma Uma, Akaka, Rainbow), Pacific Tsunami Museum, Pu’uhonua O Honaunau (Place of Refuge), Ka Lae (southernmost point in the U.S.).
If you want to get a glimpse of each island (well, the four major ones anyway: Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island), you should take a cruise. The ships stop at port on each island (two ports on the Big Island — Kona and Hilo) and allow you some time to get off the ship and see some things. Flying frantically to and from will be tiring and you won’t really see anything except the inside of the airplane. Why bother?
Check out the ‘Revealed’ series of books by Andrew Doughty and Harriett Friedman. I have each of the books for the four islands I just mentioned and they’re very useful. By reading them you should get an idea of which island(s) you’re most interested in.
Aloha
i want to go to hawaii for vacation and realized that there are many different islands in hawaii like, Kauai, Lanai, Maui, Molokai, Oahu, honolulu to name a few. which one has more attractions and activities? i dont want to go to the one that is all romantic for older couples.
Well i live in Hawaii (O’ahu to be exact). And O’ahu is the most populated island so as far as you wanting to experience more activities and what not O’ahu would be the place to go. Here you can visit the North Shore, which is known for its beautiful beaches and beautiful waves (they’re pretty big). We have the infamous Waikiki, where a lot of tourist stay, and shop, there are a lot of hot night clubs also. The beaches in Waikiki are more on the calm side, but they are kind of crowded. Of course there is Pearl Harbor where you can take a tour of the memorial. You can also visit the Iolani Palace where Hawaii’s last two monarchs ruled. This is the palace where the last Queen (Queen Lili’uokalani) was arrested and locked inside of her own room. Aside from O’ahu I’ve only visited Maui, and the Big Island, but i know for a fact that the neighbor islands are more on the country and scenic side. You might not want to go to Moloka’i for sure because you can drive from one coast to the other and end up seeing 3 cars (my friend visited). The island isn’t big at all, and its not really a tourist spot . The Big Island (Hawai’i) has two volcanoes if you’re interested in that, and one of them has lava flowing out at this moment. The Big Island is also the only place in Hawaii where you’ll find snow (on top of the mountains). Maui has the largest dormant volcano on the earth called Halleakala (it has great sunsets). Its really beautiful once you reach the top (and also very cold). You’ll be above the clouds, and you can also look inside of the volcano. Kauai is the romantic island so you might not want that.
I leave for Kona Hawaii tomorrow for 9 days. What are cheap fun things to do there?
Everything i find is at least 80 – 100 dollars a person.
Swim or lay on the beach……..it’s free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
